In the Southern Hemisphere Spring is in full flight in all her glory. Energetically Spring is a powerful time of re-birth and renewal. It is also marks the introduction of daylight savings.

Research shows us that after daylight savings time is introduced each year there is a rise in heart attacks, suicide rates, car accidents and sleep issues. There is also a reduced level of productivity and quality of life for many people.

The pineal gland, which is known as the seat of consciousness or third eye, is strongly affected by changing over to daylight savings time which impacts its job to produce melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that helps to regulate the sleep cycle. It’s also believed to help support the third eye. Interrupting our sleep patterns by even just one hour puts stress on the pineal gland and can cause us to feel irritated, confused or “blocked up”.

As it also affects us energetically as our energy also needs to readjust. This causes us to feel behind, stressed and even like we lack control. As our body’s rhythm tries to play catch up, we also become more susceptible to emotional outbursts and mood swings. It can also impact the functioning of our third eye and our intuition.

Be extra conscious of both how long, and the quality, of your sleep for the next few weeks as your body adjusts to daylight savings time. It may take up to six weeks.

And remember your kids are likely feeling the effects even more than you.
