The Spring, or Vernal Equinox is the third energetic power point of the Celestial Year. It is a Lunar festival that celebrates a time of rebirth and renewal and heralds an opportunity for expansive and positive growth.
The Equinox brings a big upswing of energy around reconciling opposites. It encourages us to use this balancing of polarity to move forward consciously, as the energy that lay dormant under the earth during winter now gets ready to burst forth.
As Equinox the sun moves out of the last of the feminine Winter zodiac signs, Pisces (water) in the Northern Hemisphere and Virgo (earth) in the Southern Hemisphere and into the masculine Spring signs of Aries (fire) in Northern Hemisphere and Libra (air) Southern Hemisphere. This shift allows whatever we were incubating through the Winter months begins to emerge to be given free expression. The passive, inward feminine energy found at the tail end of Winter also gives way to an expression of the active outer masculine energy within each of us.
While Winter is the time for planting and gestating the seed of intention and then nurturing it as it starts to take root, Spring heralds the seed bursting forth to release new life.
As the Earth stirs from its sleep, seeds sprout, sap flows enthusiastically swelling buds and stimulating new growth, flowers and leaves bud and open, and animals, birds and insects emerge to court and give birth. The silence and stillness of Winter gives way to a flurry of exuberant activity and abundance surrounding us in the natural world.
Spring: Creation and New Beginnings
The keynote of Spring is creation and the expression of new beginnings. As the natural world awakens the universal rhythms also support us to awaken and initiate new ventures, new ideas and to claim serendipitous opportunities to manifest our vision and dreams within our life.
Spring energies promote change. During early Spring we feel a strong urge to revitalise our life after the gloom and stagnation of winter. We awaken with the urge for change. The Equinox energies at this time of metamorphosis support changes, particularly those related to achieving balance. And so, we feel the need to consciously adjust and revitalise whatever is unbalanced in our lives. Energetically this is a time that powerfully supports us to begin balancing the masculine and feminine energies within ourselves.
At Spring Equinox the veil between the spiritual and the physical worlds thins, just as it does at all the major sacred points of the year. This thinning of the veil allows us to engage more deeply and effortlessly with the Universal Mind to remember our True Divine Nature with greater clarity, and to initiate our rebirth.
Spring Equinox: A Time For Conscious Creative Action
The keynote of Spring is creation. As the sun moves from the feminine sign into the masculine sign at the equinox, the impulse to take action that will move our lives forward intensifies, and we are driven to initiate conscious action.
This is a time to draw on both the creative gifts within our own shadow, as well as any that have incubated through the hibernation and darkness of winter. At Imbolc we began to emerge into the light and now, as our creative juices begin to flow under the powerful energies of the Equinox, it is time to dynamically direct our creative impulses toward the intentions we seeded during Winter.
Equinox Polarity: The Northern And Southern Hemisphere
At the Spring Equinox In the Northern hemisphere the sun moves into the creative Fire sign of new beginnings and assertive action, Aries, while in the Southern hemisphere it moves into the harmonious Air sign of balance, Libra. While these two signs may seem at odds with each other and leave you wondering how to reconcile the energy of the Vernal Equinox with two such different signs, it’s worth remembering that as the polarity of each other they actually have much in common.
Aries leaps forward, racing for the finish line, with blind enthusiasm, optimism and intuition, starting fires all along the way. Libra, however, takes it more slowly, seeking peace, harmony and balance as it moves with beauty, gentleness and tact.
But sitting in opposition to Aries requires Libra to be equally powerful, and like Aries it is extremely headstrong with great determination. Both signs are excellent at breaking down the walls to create something new. Both are powerful harbingers of a new season and a new beginning, one through creative fire and sheer impetus, and the other through focused visions and well laid out plans. Winter is the time of the Sacred Feminine Mysteries and Summer the time of the Sacred Masculine Mysteries. Equinox, the midpoint between the two Solstice polarities, represents the point of harmonious balance between the Divine Feminine and Masculine. It is a time which provides us with a vastly expanded opportunity to understand the nature of polarity. It is a time when we can find that balance within ourselves and also come to understand the importance of that balance. Just as new life bursts forth in the natural world, so too does it burst within us when we align with the rhythms of nature.
