Do you make lists? I do. I am a list-maker. I make lists for just about everything. Everywhere I look I find my lists. Sometimes they’re just a couple of points I’ve noted down for the future, the list unfinished. My day-to-day lists go in a special list notebook that I refer to through the day. There are always things that I don’t finish, and sometimes things never started. And always, things that get carried forward from one day’s list to the next.
Lists give me a sense of order and remind me that I do get things done even when it seems I’m surrounded by unfinished tasks.
My list probably looks something like yours.
- Go to the stationary supplier
- Call my sister
- Take the dog to the groomer
- Pick up some ingredients for dinner tonight
- Write a blog post
- Check in on a client
- Hang out the washing
But what if you were able to lift your to-do list above the mundane, to a level that celebrates life? What if, instead of being another obligation in your life, your list uplifted you and brought about a sense of gratitude?
By rewriting your list so it celebrates life it becomes really meaningful to you.
Plus it may also have other benefits such as breaking through your resistance to certain tasks. Best of all it keeps you motivated to follow through and keeps you focused on the joy in the present moment
Write Your Soul Empowered List
It’s simple to write a soul-empowered list ahead with these simple guidelines.
✧ Plan your whole week ahead with a new focus
✧ Take a moment as you add each item to connect with your heart for clarity. Check in with your inner wisdom about exactly why you are including this in your week. Consider the end result for you or for those you love.
✧ Determine what you enjoy about each task, even if it is something you’re reluctant to do, find an aspect of it you like and focus on that.
✧ Full points if you can pinpoint the gift within challenging tasks.
✧ Look at how you can approach each task as fun.
Here’s how my revised list might now look:
- Release my joyful inner child to play in the abundance of the stationary supplies store
- Call my sister to remind her I love her and share some fun family memories
- Take my darling fur baby for a beautiful pamper with one of her favourite people who loves her right back, so she feels light and free again
- Pick up some delicious quality ingredients to make a favourite dinner for the people I love the most
- Share my knowledge and wisdom with my followers so they can live healthy lives, and to remind them of how much I value them
- Call my lovely client to check her health is still on the mend and to remind her I am here for her whenever she needs support
- Enjoy a few minutes breathing in the crisp fresh winter air and soaking in the warm sunshine while I peg the washing out to dry.
The Golden Heart
Writing your list this way may take a little longer than normal. But writing it like this takes your awareness to the golden heart of everything you do in your day.
You know that wherever you take your awareness your energy follows. If your awareness is on the beauty, love and benefits held within your to-do list rather than on the obligation of it, your energy will also begin to feel lighter. You will begin to move through your day with more grace.
When you approach each item with greater ease and a more positive perspective it may no longer seem so ‘task-like’. You will begin to notice more joy, more fun and a greater sense of achievement in your day.
Writing your list with greater presence helps you break the hamster-wheel cycle so you can approach the mundane tasks in your life with greater awareness and soul-consciousness. It reminds you of your motivation and purpose.
