Now Spring’s arrived we’re in the middle of hay fever season and you may already be suffering.  In my alternative health clinic, I regularly prescribe homeopathic remedies to provide relief to the poor souls dealing with the sneezing and itchy eyes of hay fever.  But there are many natural remedies that can help somewhat.

The time to turn to natural remedies for hay fever relief is BEFORE it overwhelms you and you have to resort to antihistamines.  You’ll get the best and longest lasting results from consulting a natural health practitioner, but here are some ‘kitchen cures’ you can try if you get caught.

✲ For sinus and nasal congestion put some olive oil in your palm and sprinkle some black pepper into it. Breathe the aroma in. It makes you sneeze and that removes the allergens in your nose.

✲ Peppermint tea is a great decongestant

✲ Relieve itchy, dry or watery eyes with a compress made from a cloth soaked in chamomile or black tea

✲ Honey is said to cure hay fever because the bee pollen in honey can desensitise your body to other pollens

✲ Vitamin C with bioflavonoids is a known natural antihistamine

✲ Chili peppers open nasal passages and helps reduce congestion

✲ Dark green foods help eliminate toxins (pollen) from the body

✲ Two cloves of raw garlic or a garlic supplement helps reduce excess catarrh

✲ Aloe vera juice has antihistamine properties.  Dilute it in water

✲ The biggest selling hay fever treatment in France is a homeopathic remedy

✲ Perhaps the most commonly used homeopathic remedy to quickly relieve hay fever symptoms is Allium-cepa.  Some key indications for this homeopathic remedy are nose and eyes stream, sneezing is severe and frequent. Homeopathic Allium-cepa is for the person whose symptoms are worse in the evening, in warm rooms, and when in contact with flowers.  Get it from your Health Food Store or order online in a 30C or 6C potency.  If you get no relief, you likely need a different homeopathic remedy such as Euphrasia, Arsenicum album, Natrum muriaticum, Nux vomica, Sabadilla, to name just a few of the many homeopathic remedies that relieve hay fever. Consult a professional if you need help.
